Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We are the Mini Vinnies and we have been thinking how we can help families not as lucky as ourselves in the run up to Christmas. Christmas can be a time of need for many people and so we have decided to support the Penwortham Food bank at Kingsfold Community Centre. We would like to ask the children of St Teresa’s to bring in long dated food items before the 20th December so that we can deliver it to the Community Centre during the morning of the 22nd December. If you can help us with our Christmas appeal, we would really appreciate it. We are asking for one item of food per family and have split the food items into groups in the table below to help with the list of items needed.

Drowning Prevention - stay safe near water from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service
When the warm weather hits, please don’t be tempted to cool off in open water -
If you see someone in trouble in the water:
Tuesday July 25 is World Drowning Prevention Day. See World Drowning Prevention Day - 25 July (rnli.org) for information about the day. To help raise awareness, landmarks across the whole of Lancashire are being lit blue on the Tuesday evening. We would love to see your photos of them if you spot any (only the buildings though please – try not to include people). You can send them to - preventionsupport@lancsfirerescue.org.uk

The PTFA would like to invite you to be part of our Summer Sunflower Hunt. It will involve planting,
growing, measuring, recording, walking, spotting, getting creative and using your brain. We would like you
to plant a sunflower in your garden to create a sea of giant sunny sunflowers around Penwortham.
During the summer holiday, you will be able to go out for walks as a family to try to ‘hunt for and collect’
the words that will be attached to each of the sunflowers. The family with the highest number of correct
words will win a prize. There are plenty of other prizes to be won – details to follow.
Cost: £5 per pack – only one needed per household.
Who can take part?: Everyone in the St. Teresa’s School family – Pupils, Staff, Governors, Grandparents and
New starters. To make things easier for walking, if you do not live in the Penwortham area, perhaps you
could plant your sunflower in a Grandparents garden or a friend’s garden. Over several weeks, we will send
out the resources that you will need to fully take part.
What should we do?: Complete each of the three sections of this sheet and place in a clearly labelled
envelope along with £5. If you require an additional pack (for Grandparents), please ask at the school office
for a spare form and complete/send into school with £5 as above.
When?: Please return your forms as soon as possible. Section 1 packs will be sent home week beginning
15th May so that you can get planting.

CAFOD BIG LENT COMMUNITY SPONSORED WALK
SATURDAY 25TH MARCH 2023
Message from All Hallows Catholic High School
As part of our Lent Appeal 2023, we have organised with the local parishes and feeder primary schools of St Teresa’s, St Mary Magdalen’s, St Oswald’s and Our Lady and St Gerard’s, a sponsored community walk. This walk will be to support the work of CAFOD and their Lent appeal, as well as the emergency work they are doing in Turkey and Syria following the devastating earthquake. Big Lent Walks are taking place right across England and Wales this Lent with the challenge of walking 200km throughout the 40 days of Lent. However, we think we can manage this in one big community walk.
To find out more about the work of CAFOD visit their website: https://cafod.org.uk/
Pupils, their families and friends, and parishioners are all invited to join us for our community walk. The 11km walk will begin at St Oswald’s Church, Longton, we will then walk to St Teresa’s Church where they will provide some light refreshments, and we will then walk back to St Oswald’s. Our community event will end with a celebration Youth Mass at St Oswald’s at 5pm. This Youth Mass will involve our pupils taking leading roles in the liturgy and the music. Following the Mass there will be pizza served in St Oswald’s Primary school to celebrate all that we have achieved that afternoon as a community.
We are suggesting a £5 donation per person as an entry fee, which will go to CAFOD but please use the sponsor form attached to collect more sponsorship for the walk. The £5 entry fee and any other donations to our CAFOD Lent Appeal can be paid via our online donation page: https://cafod.enthuse.com/pf/all-hallows-chaplain
This is the second time organising this community event and last year was a great success. It will be great to be able to gather as a community for a fantastic cause once again. We look forward to seeing you there.
Below is the outline of the afternoon’s walk, you are more than welcome to join us for all or part of the walk or the Mass.
1pm: Gather at St Oswald’s Church (parking is available)
1:15pm: Set off to St Teresa’s Church
Approx. 2:45pm: Arrive at St Teresa’s (20 minute stop for light refreshments).
Approx. 4:30pm: Arrive at St Oswald’s.
5pm: Youth Mass.
6pm: Pizza in St Oswald’s School.
Please complete the google form (the link is below) if you plan to attend, and please indicate if you will be walking as a family or if your child will be joining a school group of pupils and staff. This will help us to have an idea of how many to expect and cater for.
