St Teresa's Catholic Primary School

CAFOD Big Lent Walk

During the season of Lent, our school will be taking part in the CAFOD Big Lent Walk to help raise money for CAFOD (the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development).
The Big Lent Walk is a national initiative where schools, families and parishes walk to raise money to support communities around the world who are experiencing poverty, food shortages and the effects of climate change. Through our participation, we will be helping CAFOD provide essentials such as clean water, food, healthcare and education to those most in need.

Throughout Lent, each class will pledge to walk a mile a day around the school playground. We will encourage the children to think about how small actions, taken together, can make a big difference.

We will also be holding a Non-Uniform Day on Tuesday 31st March to raise additional funds. On this day, children are invited to come to school wearing their own clothes in exchange for a suggested donation of £1 (or any amount you feel able to give). All money raised will go directly to CAFOD. We will also be welcoming a CAFOD volunteer into our school to lead a whole school assembly for our children.

Our participation in the Big Lent Walk links closely to Catholic Social Teaching, especially:

  • Option for the Poor and Vulnerable – putting the needs of the poorest first.
  • Solidarity – recognising that we are one global family.
  • Stewardship of Creation – caring for God’s world and responding to the impact of climate change.

Through this experience, we hope the children will grow in their understanding of how they can live out our Gospel values by helping others. Thank you for your continued generosity and support. Together, we can help make a real difference to families around the world.
