St Teresa's Catholic Primary School

Prayer & Liturgy

At St. Teresa's, prayer and liturgy are central to our daily life and spiritual identity. Every day, pupils and staff engage in meaningful moments of prayer, reflection, and worship, which help to nurture a deep and personal relationship with God. These experiences are designed to be inclusive, age-appropriate, and rooted in the Catholic tradition.

Throughout the year, we warmly invite parents and carers to join us for Stay and Pray sessions. These gatherings offer a special opportunity for families to share in the spiritual life of the school, reflect together, and strengthen our faith community.

Each class participates in the celebration of Mass at various points during the year, either in St. Teresa's Church. Parents are always welcome to attend these Masses, which are joyful occasions of worship and thanksgiving. In addition, children are given opportunities to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and, where appropriate, the Eucharist, as part of their spiritual formation.

Prayer and liturgy at St. Teresa's aim to name and celebrate God’s presence in our lives. They are expressions of our love and gratitude to God—giving glory, honour, praise, and thanks. These moments are our heartfelt response, in both word and action, to God’s invitation to enter into relationship, made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the ongoing witness of the Holy Spirit.

We embrace a wide variety of forms of prayer and liturgical celebration, including:

  • Individual prayer and Christian meditation
  • Celebration of the Word in assemblies and classrooms
  • Traditional prayers and devotions, such as the Rosary and seasonal reflections
  • Special liturgies marking key moments in the school year (e.g. Advent, Lent, feast days)
  • Sacramental celebrations, including Mass and Reconciliation

Each form of prayer and liturgy is thoughtfully planned to reflect the age and needs of the participants, the context of the celebration, and the spiritual themes being explored. Whether in a quiet moment of personal prayer or a whole-school liturgy, we seek to create spaces where all can encounter God and grow in faith.
