PESSPA News 24/25
Lancashire County Indoor Athletics Finals W/C 17.2.25
On Wednesday, our athletics team represented the whole of South Ribble at the Lancashire Indoor Athletics Competition at Stanley Park, Blackpool. Once again, the children took part in a range of track and field events including soft javelin, speed bounce and standing long jump to name a few. As usual, they gave it their all and were wonderful sporting ambassadors for our school and district. The competition was very tough but the children showed grit and determination in all of their events. Out of fifteen schools, we finished in seventh place which is incredible, given that there are approximately five hundred and fifty one primary schools in our county! We are so very proud of each and every participant and this commendable achievement. Well done to you all! Thank you to our wonderful parents who supported us with transport and were our fantastic cheerleaders on the day! Thank you also to Coach Simon Williams from Prime Sports for preparing our children.
South Ribble Indoor Athletics Finals W/C 3.2.25
On Tuesday night, our children went along to the South Ribble Athletics finals at Lostock Hall Academy. The children competed against all the other winners and finalists from around South Ribble. Once again, they took part in various field and track events and I can say that they truly gave it their all! Despite a few nerves, the children pulled together, championed each other and performed excellently in each event. Overall, we finished in first position making us South Ribble Indoor Athletics Champions! Furthermore, we now go on to compete, representing South Ribble in the Lancashire finals later in March. Good luck to our team - our training has truly paid off! Another trophy for the cabinet... 'Let's go St T's, let's go!' ππππ
Cricket Engagement Day W/C 10.2.25
Cricket Y3 and Y4 enjoyed a day of cricket with Lancashire cricket on Tuesday. The children learnt some throwing, catching and batting skills. They were great ambassadors for our school and thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. Thank you to Coach Stuart.
Cross County W/C 10.2.25
On Tuesday, our cross country team attended the Primary School's district cross country at Hutton Grammar School. There was a record number of children in attendance with 24 primary schools from across South Ribble. Our runners did an excellent job, giving it their absolute all. We placed 2nd in the boys race and 3rd in the girls race! Overall our combined position was 3rd so we are over the moon with this result! A special mention and well done to Emily H who finished 1st in the girls race with over 200 girls competing - an outstanding achievement! Thank you to Hutton Grammar School for putting on the event!
Dance From The Heart 2025 W/C 3.2.25
Our Y6 Dance from the Heart leaders went along to Priory on Tuesday afternoon to learn this year's routine. Excellent participation by all! The children are looking forward to training some of our children in preparation for the roadshow which is scheduled for the Summer term!
Tennis Festival at South Ribble Tennis Centre
Y4 Tennis Team Well done to our Y4 Tennis team who went along to South Ribble Tennis Centre on Tuesday morning for the annual competition. The children played in singles matches and won all but one of their games - very impressive! Overall, we finished first in our group! Well done for showcasing excellent skills and most importantly being excellent sporting ambassadors for St Teresa's! Wear those medals with pride ππΎοΏ½
Indoor Athletics W/C 27.1.25
Our athletics team went to Priory on Tuesday afternoon for the much anticipated event of the year - The annual Primary Indoor Athletics competition! The team took part in 'field' events such as javelin, chest push, standing long jump and some fast-paced running relay events. The buzz in the hall was absolutely electric as we supported each other and cheered each other on. In total, each child took part in four events and they gave it their all. Practice really does pay off though and it was thanks to our recent training sessions that gave us the edge! We are delighted to announce that we were awarded first position overall; receiving some more medals! This also means that we will proceed to the South Ribble Indoor Athletics Finals in March. Another outstanding performance by our children - well done to you all and thank you to South Ribble for another superb event! ππ π
Lancashire Girls Football Finals W/C 13.1.25
After being crowned South Ribble Champions, our girls team travelled to Thornton Cleveleys last Friday to take part in the Lancashire Girls Football Finals! Within our group the children faced teams from West Lancs, Ribble Valley, Blackburn, Blackpool, Heysham, Darwen and Chorley. With sheer determination, the girls showed focus and worked together to win several matches, finishing in 4th place and proceeding to the Quarter finals! We faced a very tough opponent and unfortunately we were knocked out at this stage. Fylde who knocked us out, went on to win the whole competition! Our girls, throughout the whole of their training and at each competition have shown outstanding skills, unwavering resilience, and remarkable determination. Their hard work, teamwork, and dedication both on and off the field have been truly inspiring. They’ve shown incredible spirit and represented our school with pride - we are beyond proud of them all! Well done to all our girls! Thank you to our very supportive parents and Coach Simon Williams for coaching our girls to an excellent standard!

Cricket & Indoor Athletics Festival W/C 6.1.25
On Thursday, Stuart Naden from Lancashire Cricket visited the school to deliver cricket sessions for our Year 5 and 6 pupils. The children had a fantastic time, learning new skills and enjoying the experience. He will be returning next week to deliver additional sessions. Today, some of our children participated in an indoor athletics festival with coaches from South Ribble. These sessions were a great success, and the remaining classes will have their sessions next week
Volleyball Competition at Hutton Grammar School W/C 9.12.24
Last night, some of our children went to a volley ball competition - the first one that has been organised locally. Our team played in seven matches against schools from South Ribble. We played well as a team and there was some outstanding moments of play! Amazingly, we won 6/7 matches. Congratulations to our team who finished joined 1st place with St Mary's Leyland who were also amazing on the night. Thank you to Prime Sports for our recent coaching sessions and Hutton Grammar School for hosting a great event! Our children received their medals in assembly today!
South Ribble Girls Football Finals W/C 2.12.24
On Tuesday night, our girls’ team went to the SRBC football finals. They played in eight tough matches against the winners and runners up from all the other area clusters. As usual, the girls displayed excellent skills and worked fantastically together as a team. In total, we won six matches and drew two - only conceding one goal throughout the duration of the night. We are delighted to have finished in first position overall and were crowned South Ribble Girls Champions! We have now qualified to represent South Ribble in the Lancashire Girls football finals in the new year. What an incredible achievement - well done to all our children! Mindfulness Event W/C 2.12.24
On Tuesday, four of our Year 4 pupils took part in mindfulness event organised by SR Active Schools team. It was the first of its kind and what a success it was. Our children had a very reflective, calm morning; completing some breathing technique activities, meditation, stretching exercises, reading affirmations and mindfulness colouring. The children loved the morning and they were a credit to the school!
South Ribble KS1 Multi- Skills Event W/C 25.11.24
This week, four of our Year 2 children had the exciting opportunity to take part in a KS1 Multi-Skills Sports Event at Priory. The event was filled with a variety of fun and challenging activities, including basketball, netball throw, beanbag throwing, target throw at wicket, speed bounce, toe taps, clap catch, shuttle runs, kicking target, tennis balance and bouncing and catching balls of different sizes.
Our team displayed incredible teamwork, encouraging and cheering each other on throughout the event. Their enthusiasm and resilience were inspiring, as they tackled each activity with a positive attitude regardless of the outcome.
Well done to our Year 2 team for representing our school with such great spirit! You’ve made us all very proud!
South Ribble Girls Football League W/C 18.11.24
Congratulations to St. Teresa’s girls on their incredible achievement of winning the South Ribble, Penwortham Cluster Football League! The team has been unstoppable, winning all 12 games this season without conceding a single goal—a truly remarkable accomplishment! A massive well done to all the girls who have proudly represented the team, showing outstanding skill, teamwork, and determination. A special thank you to the parents and supporters who have braved the wintery conditions to cheer the team on—it wouldn’t be the same without your encouragement. Thank you also to our fantastic Coach, Simon Williams for coaching our girls, supporting them and preparing them for the competition. The journey isn’t over yet, as we now look forward to competing in the South Ribble Finals on Tuesday, 3rd December. Let’s keep the momentum going—good luck, girls!
Lancashire School Games Launch event W/C 18.11.24
Recently, we were nominated to be a representative school from South Ribble for the launch of the Lancashire School games! Mrs. Dawson and several St. Teresa's House Captains attended the launch at 'James Hall & Co', who as you may know are an award winning Lancashire based family business, who operate as the primary wholesaler to SPAR retailers throughout the North of England! Amazingly, SPAR have sponsored the Lancashire School Games for the last nineteen years. Whilst there, the children met Nathan Maguire a Paralympian silver medallist and Common Wealth gold medal winner - who was such an inspiration to our children! The children also enjoyed an interesting tour of SPAR HQ and they learnt all about production and distribution! Our children were exceptional role models on the day!
South Ribble Dodgeball Cluster competition W/C 18.11.24
On Tuesday evening, some Year 4 children attended a dodgeball competition at Priory Academy. They played in six matches against local schools. We played so well demonstrating great throwing and catching skills and worked effectively as a team, supporting each other positively. We won the majority of our matches with a loss and a draw. Overall, we finished in 3rd position which we are delighted about. We are so proud of our children for their super manners and displaying excellent sportsmanship throughout. Well done super stars!
Active Lancashire Sports Awards League W/C 18.11.24
After winning the South Ribble Sports Award for School of the Year, we were thrilled to learn that we had been nominated for the Active Lancashire School of the Year Award! Last Friday, we attended the awards ceremony, where we were honoured to be among a shortlist of seven fantastic schools. While we didn’t take home the top prize, we are incredibly proud of our nomination and all of our achievements in sport. This recognition highlights the dedication and talent of our pupils, staff, and wider school community. Well done, everyone!

The South Ribble Girls Football League continues to shine, securing a phenomenal 4 wins out of 4 for the second consecutive week without conceding a goal! The team’s relentless determination and superb cohesion are unmatched, making them a force to be reckoned with. Savannah has been on fire, scoring an incredible 7 goals, with Shatzi adding 2 to her tally and Francesca and Kalya each chipping in with a goal. Every player is stepping up to deliver outstanding performances, both in attack and defense, solidifying their dominance on the field. Our girls kicked off the South Ribble Girls Football League with an incredible start, winning all three of their opening games without conceding a single goal. This outstanding performance highlights the team’s dedication, skill, and teamwork. Every player has contributed to the team’s strong defensive play, keeping opponents at bay while showcasing an impressive in possession strategy. Their hard work in training is clearly paying off, setting a strong tone for the competition. South Ribble Sports Awards WINNERS!!! W/C 4.11.24
We are excited to share some fantastic news with you! On Saturday evening, we attended the South Ribble Sports Awards, a special event that recognized the dedication of volunteers, clubs, and athletes in our local community. We were absolutely delighted to be nominated for School of the Year and even more thrilled when we were announced as the winners! This has been a remarkable year for our school in sport, with our teams consistently placing in the top three across various competitions, reaching the Lancashire Finals in cricket, dance and netball, and achieving the School Games Gold Award for the third year running. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our amazing staff. Mrs. Dawson, our Sports Lead, has been the driving force behind the planning and organisation of sport at our school, always bringing her passion and expertise to the role. Simon Williams has been invaluable in preparing our pupils for competitions, as well as running lunchtime and after-school clubs. Mrs. Worthington and Mrs. Richardson have both played crucial roles in organising and attending events, managing logistics, coordinating kits, and ensuring everything runs smoothly for our children. We are incredibly proud of our achievements and grateful to our amazing pupils who have shone this year. Thank you to our wonderful parents who have supported us with transportation and attending various fixtures and events.

South Ribble Football Finals After finishing as Penwortham League cluster winners, our Blue Team went on to play in the South Ribble Football finals on Thursday night. They played like true professionals, demonstrating excellent attitudes and superb sportsmanship. Overall we finished in 5th place! Year 4 Sports Festival We had an amazing time at the Year 4 Sports Festival! Our students joined with children from other schools and competed in a variety of sports, including dodgeball, volleyball, boxing, archery, curling, and boules. The atmosphere was full of fun and excitement, with everyone cheering each other on and displaying great team spirit. It was wonderful to see so much positive energy and sportsmanship from all the children!

We are pleased with the level of determination and support the children have given over the last few weeks, representing our school! Both teams have displayed excellent skills and good sportsmanship. Year 2 Dance W/C 30.09.24
A group of Year 2 children have been attending dance sessions at our school over the last few weeks. On Sunday, they performed the dance at the St Teresa's Family Fun day. They children were very enthusiastic and energetic and showcased their dancing ability beautifully! Well done to them all - we enjoyed watching this in our Celebration assembly today

Active Travel Leaders W/C 23.09.24
On Tuesday, four of our newly appointed House Captains had some 'Active Travel' training at Leyland Leisure Centre. Several of the South Ribble coaches delivered the training and the children completed the activities so sensibly. They learnt how to teach younger groups of children skills linked to cycling and scooting safely with confidence and competence. Our House Captains will be implementing this training with our infant children in the very near future. This is yet another way that we hope to help promote active lifestyles at St Teresa's! Well done to those house captains and we look forward to seeing you in action soon!
GB Mountain Biker - Danny Butler W/C 23.09.24
On Monday, we were incredibly privileged to welcome Danny Butler, a mountain biker from the GB team, to our school. Danny gave an inspiring talk, encouraging the children to follow their passions and enjoy the journey along the way. He shared stories from his career and highlighted the importance of perseverance and doing what you love. To top it off, Danny wowed everyone with an exciting display of his skills, including a jaw-dropping moment when he jumped over Mrs. Richardson! It was an unforgettable experience that left us all motivated and full of energy! On Thursday night, our mixed Y5/6 football teams went along to Priory Academy in the inclement weather. Both teams played excellently and really supported each other on the pitch. We had some wins, losses and draws but they all showed resilience and determination throughout. St Teresa's Yellow Team Player of the night was Harry. The Blue Team player of the night was Gabriel. On Thursday evening, we were in action for our very first competition of the year. The much anticipated mixed football league, organised by South Ribble took place at Priory. Fortunately, this year, we were allowed to enter two teams which we were delighted about! Both squads, along with Prime Sports, headed down to Priory very proudly and when there, they played some fantastic football. We witnessed excellent team work, some tremendous tackles, solid defending and thrilling goals. South Ribble Handball Festival W/C 16.09.24
Some of our children have enjoyed participating in a South Ribble handball festival today. They learnt some catching and throwing skills and enjoyed small team drills aiming at the goal in order to score. If your child did not participate this week, they will have a session next Friday.
